20 Reasons to Hire a Coach

What is this whole coaching thing?! That is a great question and the same one I asked only a few years ago.

I was in the middle of a thriving business but I knew something was missing. One day a client and friend told me she was going to Hawaii to meet with her coach...um what?! What is a coach and how can I go to Hawaii?! Hawaii aside, it was the coaching part that intrigued me. My friend shared her experience of hiring a coach several months prior and how impactful it was on her life.

I started researching coaching and unpacking the differences between coaching and therapy. I was dedicated to my therapy since I lost my son and it had a profound impact on my life, my marriage and my future has a mother. And at the same time, I wanted to move forward with other life and professional goals that weren't part of the therapeutic space. I learned the main difference between coaching and therapy is: therapy often looks back in the past at how, why or what happened and coaching often looks to the future and how to focus on moving a goal/project/idea forward.

When I hired my first coach (of many), I started to really shift and see more forward and intentional movement.

That first coaching experience helped me identify my purpose and next chapter - Soul Space Work. Soul Space Work began as a consulting space but I quickly realized I wanted to offer more personal and one-to-one mentorship. I wanted to help people - especially women - move forward in their goals and not feel so alone in the process. I wanted to offer them a safe place to explore and an accountability partner. I wanted to help them create a plan and see it through. I wanted to be a coach.

But what did that mean? I didn't just want to say I was a coach, I wanted to deeply understand the principles and professional guideposts necessary to guide someone in a thought-provoking, creative and safe way toward their own development. I earned a coaching certificate from an accredited program and that helped to build the foundational framework of my business.

My whole point in sharing this is that life is just too damn short to not explore and grow and move toward your goals and dreams. And ... with a trusted coaching relationship, you don't have go exploring all alone.

So if you aren't sure if you might want or need a coach, here are

20 Reasons to Hire a Coach

(fyi: all of these are either reasons why I hired a coach or why someone hired me)

  4. You want to navigate resigning from your job

  5. You want to improve your communication at work or at home

  6. You want support navigating your grief

  7. You want to change careers

  8. You want to join the workforce (either as a new grad or mom who as been out of the workforce)

  9. You want to refocus your life after a big change (graduation, divorce, moving)
